Taste Your Way Through the Holidays
One of my favorite things about winter is all of the delicious foods that accompany the season! From sweet treats and mugs of hot chocolate to savory meals and winter wines, Upstate New York is the perfect place to taste your way through the holidays. Here are some of my favorite places to indulge during the winter.
Holidays At The Market
Rochester, NY’s famed public market is hosting Holidays at the Market - the perfect time to do a little shopping for the perfect holiday good or goodie. Shop on December 3rd and 10th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for festive items to decorate your house or holiday food delicacies to line your table. Families can even decorate a free Christmas cookie for a sweet snack.
Maître D’ at Trombino’s
If you’re looking to settle into a cozy restaurant away from the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, Maitre D’ at Trombino’s is the place to go. Located in Lyons, NY, this fine-dining establishment offers American bistro fare with a menu to make your mouth water! The restaurant opened its doors in September but the building dates back to the 1940s when it served as an opera house. Maitre D’ at Trombino’s taps into its operatic roots with fine details such as faux taxidermy dressed in old-fashioned theatre attire utilizing vintage opera costumes and draperies.
Johnson Estate Winery
Winter is a great time to visit wineries. Tasting rooms are typically less crowded and the experience is more educational and intimate. Plus, many new vintages are released! Enjoy a tasting at Johnson Estate Winery in Westfield, NY for samplings of red, white, blush, and even ice wines - the specialty dessert wine unique to the northern climate.
Looking for something to do the week after Christmas? Visit Johnson Estate and the rest of the wineries on the Lake Erie Wine Trail for Holiday Week at the Wineries from December 26 to 31, 2017 for wine samples and special offers.
The Source at Factory No. 2
There’s no better way to get into the holiday spirit than by sipping on some cocoa. The Source at Factory No. 2 in Corning, NY boasts a whopping 12 gourmet flavors of hot cocoa, each served with whipped cream. With options like gingerbread, hazelnut, s’mores, and candy cane - you’ll have a hard time choosing! To top it off (literally), The Source makes their own marshmallows. On that note, make sure to add this heavenly hangout to your list to visit this winter.
The holidays wouldn’t be complete without some tasty treats! Make sure to stop at Oliver’s Candies in Batavia, NY for all of your favorite sweets - including homemade candy canes, peppermint bark, reindeer corn, ribbon candy, fudge, and more. You may even see Santa and Mrs. Claus walking about the candy shop!
