If Shopping is a Sport, Give Me the Gold Medal

I would consider myself a shopping expert. If they existed, I’d like to think I would even be awarded a gold medal for it. I get an adrenaline rush whenever I score a great deal or find a unique fashion piece to add to my collection. I find excuses to freshen up my wardrobe every season, and love to start shopping for the holidays a couple months early to make sure I find the perfect gifts for everyone in my life (plus a little something for myself).

Living in Upstate New York, I’m lucky enough to be close to many awesome shopping destinations that fit whatever mood I may be in!

Right down the road is my favorite shopping mall, Eastview. Located in beautiful Victor, NY, Eastview is a perfect mix of high end stores and affordable fashion. From exquisite department stores to unique boutiques, it has something for everyone.

When I am on the hunt for especially great deals, I head to Waterloo Premium Outlets. All of my favorite bags and shoes are ones I have purchased from designer stores at the outlets, and I always find something new when I go! It’s a perfect way to spend a day with my girlfriends, and the variety of stores guarantees we all leave happy with some great finds in tow.

When I’m looking for something extra special and a little different, I head to Ithaca. A beautiful area with so much to offer, Downtown Ithaca Commons spreads four blocks featuring over 100 unique stores, vendors and restaurants. It’s so easy to spend a day getting lost amongst the sights, delicious smells and amazing deals!

My mother and I have always loved to go antique shopping together. Growing up, I loved to help her find one-of-a-kind items. Once I got my own place, I became even more obsessed with finding the perfect piece of vintage furniture or the most beautiful accessory that must have been owned by someone at least 50 years ago. Schoharie County is our favorite place for these unique findings.

A different type of shopping, my perfect Saturday morning entails waking up early and heading straight to Rochester’s Public Market. I start with a coffee and a breakfast sandwich from local vendors, and then begin to peruse the aisles and pick up my weekly produce, and maybe even treat myself with a bakery item – my favorite is the delectable almond croissant.

Well there you have it, my favorite places to shop in Upstate New York! Come see for yourself why a shopping trip across the border is undoubtedly worth it – from lower sales taxes to unbeatable deals.
