Haunted Happenings in Upstate New York

The air is crisp and night falls early as another summer fades away. In its place Fall whistles in through the changing leaves and brings thoughts of Halloween thrills and a full lineup of spooktacular events.

Are you ready to take on the ghosts of history’s past? Pack your flashlight and head out on this possessed road trip throughout Upstate New York with several stops that are proven to reveal paranormal activity. From overnight stays to tours to quick stops, the haunts of the region dare you to visit.

Haunted Hotels:

The Naples Hotel: The hotel uses the slogan “keeping travelers happy since 1895” and it seems that some are so happy that they have decided to stay indefinitely. Featuring seven different suites, there is a style and size to meet the needs of any guest. Two hour spirit tours of the property can be arranged by appointment and introduce you to the history and some of the “less visible” guests.

Genesee Falls Inn: This 1870s inn sits just a half mile from the Portageville entrance to Letchworth State park, but that isn’t the only adventure you can have when you stay here. There are a handful of potential reasons for the haunting activity including fire, drowning, and suicide. Stay overnight in one of the 11 rooms and make time for a paranormal investigation.

The Allegiance Bed & Breakfast: Named after Francis Bellamy, who wrote the Pledge of Allegiance, and being a past Underground Railroad stop there is clearly no shortage of history here. The hotel is said to be haunted by two ghosts that are relatively friendly and join the owners in welcoming everyone for a stay. Featured on shows such as the Today show and Paranormal State, it’s a safe bet you will have your own encounter.

Canandaigua Haunted History: Learn about the historic city of Canandaigua as guides share facts, legends, and the tales of ghost sightings. Explore buildings that have intriguing pasts and some that are still in use today.

October Grand Torchlight Tours of Mt. Hope Cemetery: You’ll have two chances this season to participate in this annual after-dark tour. Stroll around the headstones and hear stories about Rochester as you let the light of your torch guide your journey.

Palmyra Murder Mystery and Tragedy Tour: Palmyra has a collection of buildings that have become haunted hot spots. Experience them all on this unique tour that winds throughout the town and shares the tales of each major ghost sighting. You won’t want to forget the flashlight for this outing.

Suspicious Sights:

Dunkirk Lighthouse: Since opening in 1826 there has been a nonstop procession of strange happenings in and around the property. Past visitors and ghost hunting groups such as the Shadow Hunters have had paranormal interactions while here. Get your tickets today for one of the seven tours taking place this fall.

Rolling Hills Asylum: Opened originally as a site to house orphaned children, elderly, physically handicapped, mentally unstable, morally corrupt, even criminals it is no surprise that the location has gone on to become a top haunted destination. Haunted Bergen House: Located on an abundance of history, there is a new discovery found with every investigation. Evidence has been found both day and night throughout all of the house’s rooms increasing the chances for you to experience your own!
