Apples, Hard Cider and Pie - Oh My!
The best part of New York is experiencing all four seasons. The summer brings sunshine, winter brings snow, spring brings flowers and fall? Well, fall brings APPLES! Not only apples, but the freshest and juiciest apples of them all. From apple picking to hard cider, and everything in between, Upstate New York apples are something to brag about. Here are just a few of my suggestions to enjoy the apples when you cross the border.
Looking for a family-friendly activity? Try apple picking!
You can spend the whole day at Wickham Farms and still not have enough time! Guests can buy an apple bag upon arrival and fill it up with as many apples as they want with choices including empire, gala, red delicious, macoun and honeycrisp. After apple picking, families can enjoy miniature golf, farm animals, a corn maze, or even a hayride!
If you enjoy apples too much to just stick to one place, try Wayne County’s Apple Tasting Challenge throughout the entire month of October! After collecting a stamp from each of the 13 participating locations, you will be entered to win a gift basket up to a $200 value. From Williamson to Wolcott and everything in between, you will try the best apples in Wayne County!
Ready to sit back and relax? Don’t forget to try some hard cider!
Have you ever had a hard cider slushie? Well, now is your time at Three Brothers Winery & Estates! With War Horse Brewing Company brewing on site, anything is possible. Stop by to try their wide variety of beer selection or red apple bombshell original hard cider.
Whether you want to go to a restaurant or just relax back at your hotel, Rootstock Ciderworks, allows you to do either. Sold at many local grocery stores and served at some of the most popular bars, Rootstock Ciderworks offers convenience to their customers. Not sure what kind of cider you’ll enjoy? Visit their Apple Country Spirits' tasting room where they offer hard cider plus a range of apple-based spirits!
Don’t want to bake on your vacation? Buy an apple pie!
Leo's Bakery & Deli doesn’t just bake pies, they make them taste like they came straight from Grandma’s kitchen. The pies are known for the crust made from scratch and delicious, fresh flavor. Stop in to grab a pie, but fair warning - you will leave with many, many more sweets!
At Portage Pie, you might want to consider ordering ahead! Their speciality is pies and trust me, there is a high demand for them! Fresh pies are baked everyday using local ingredients so give it a shot and try their double crust apple pie.
I don’t know about you, but I am craving some apples now! With the leaves changing, Halloween coming and apple pie baking, it’s time you take a trip and see what these New York apples are all about!
